Principal's Message
Winslow Township Elementary School #2 provides educational opportunities for approximately 360 students in pre-kindergarten through third grade. With strong emphasis on student achievement, School #2 focuses on New Jersey’s Student Learning Standards and provides opportunities for teachers to grow and learn professionally.

When developing a strong literacy foundation for our youngest learners, Winslow Township Elementary School #2 provides a balanced literacy approach with a focus on whole group reading, shared reading, guided reading, phonemic awareness and word study, independent reading, writing mini lessons, and independent writing. Teachers have access to both fiction and non-fiction leveled books to meet the needs of all learners and strategies acquired through small group instruction provide students with abilities to become life-long independent readers.

Maintaining the belief that all students can learn, we will fail to wait, rather than wait for students to fail. Providing the best academic setting for all learners remains a priority that is met with multiple measures. Through our Response to Intervention Model, School #2 students are provided with literacy interventions or accelerations in specific areas that are the result of analyzed data from: Fountas and Pinnell Assessment Benchmark System, DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Early Literacy Skills), and Link It!. Intervention and Referral Services is a committee which includes parents and provides additional support for students in areas of deficit by developing goals and monitoring them closely.

Meeting rising standards and rigor, academic programs implemented in all classrooms meet students and teachers on their academic journey. At the pre-kindergarten level, classrooms remain student centered with the use of Creative Curriculum. In grades kindergarten through third grade, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journey’s and Go Math, Fundations, and Empowering Writers are the programs implemented at high levels of efficacy in order to develop young minds with a strong academic foundation.

Our Science program provides opportunities for students receive standard driven instruction through hands on activities and projects. Complementing the Science program is our STEM program in third grade, which provides opportunities for students to work collaboratively while improving problem solving skills. The heightened interest in our STEM program has impacted students in earlier grades as teachers incorporated lessons as well.
With an emphasis on teaching students to thrive and be successful, character education opportunities are infused in lessons provided by the School Counselor and in the Social Studies program.

Winslow Township Elementary School #2 students receive a well-rounded education that support their academic learning in settings such as: Art, Computers, Gym, Library and Music. Programs such as English Language Learners, Gifted and Talented, and Special Education provide opportunities for students to receive strategic instruction. Support provided by the School Counselor, Child Study Team, and School Nurse provide opportunities for students to grow and learn socially and emotionally.

Each school year here at Winslow Township Elementary School #2, will be meaningful and inspiring for children. From the smallest personal beginnings to academic accomplishments, we are here to dream and make goals. Dreams and goals shape children’s lives and motivates them to learn. Dream, A Tale of Wonder, Wisdom, and Wishes by Susan V. Bosak is the theme at School #2. Dreams are important for all ages and here at School #2, they will give our students direction and meaning in life’s journey through all their years in education. Dreamers are the ones who have the courage and creativity to see beyond “what is” to “what can be” to make a difference in their own life and the lives of others. The Dream Team here at Winslow Township Elementary School #2 is prepared to make students’ dreams come true.

Yours respectfully,

Lori Kelly
